‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad’ is based on two eight bar themes, A and B. Theme A is based on a chord sequence of A minor, E minor, G major and D major. Theme B has two different types, ‘Bx’ and ‘By’. Theme Bx has a repeated two bar phrase and the chord pattern is C major, A minor, C major, A minor. Theme By also has a repeated two bar phrase and the chord sequence is F major, C major, F major, C major. This is much more positive and uplifting in contrast to Bx. The overall structure is verse and chorus, with A being the verse and B being the chorus sections. Melody The piano melody of the song is very repetitive and only varies when it becomes more syncopated at A5(1:19). The vocal melody for the line ‘Why does my heart feel so bad’ ascends and then descends, reflecting a person’s tone in a question and answer. There is also a counter melody provided by the synth strings and piano, which engages in call and response with the main vocal melody at A6. Rhythm The time signature for this song is 4 crotchet beats in every bar, however most of the notes are quavers and semiquavers. The Latin American rhythm was influential on American dance music as Hispanic culture was prominent in America at the time. Harmony The harmony of the verses is very repetitive and uses a sequence of A minor x2, E minor x2, G major x2 and D major x2, as shown at A1. The harmony of the chorus , however uses the chords of C major and A minor twice, then F major, C major twice, to create a feeling of uplifting to accompany the lyrics: ‘These open doors’. Both samples have a new harmony after every 2 bars. The Harmony is regular, rhythmic and reflective. Tonality The tonality of the track is more modal than diatonic and is very predictable, C major goes to its relative minor, A. The patterns moves in a sequence of down a 4th, up a 3rd, then down a 3rdand although there is no key signature, A minor features prominently. The chorus is C major and the major feel to the chorus is very noticeable to the listener. Music Technology Moby uses a variety of different technical effects to the track and although the track was recorded 13 years ago, much of the technology he used is still being used by artists today. Moby changed the word ‘glad’ to ‘bad’ to make the song about hurt instead of happiness. Moby uses EQ (Equaliser) in verse 2 (A6) and applies it to the vocal sample for the ‘telephone voice’ effect where the bass and treble frequencies are cut to emphasis the middle range creating a thin sound. The liabilities of the company also proved to have multiple changes over time.Due to the purchase of the new equipment there has been a large increase of the debt accrued by the company according to the annual report. Borrowing became necessary to cover all the necessary equipment. The report also stated that an increase of supply purchases would save money in the long run due to the discounted cost at the time of the purchase (Apollo Group, 2013). The current long term debt increased 114. 80 percent a change of $10,414 dollars. The accrued expenses also rose 119. 80 percent a change of $5,013 dollars, leaving a total liability increase of 16. percent companywide leaving a change of $248,703 dollars. (Apollo Group, 2013). The total equity of the company fell between 2009 and 2008. The hospital did not do so well, although most of the shortfall can be attributed to the increase of assets they accrued over the change of 2009 to 2008. The retained earnings between the two years fell 62. 50 percent a loss of $209,471 dollars. This pushed the total liabilities and equity up by 71. 50 percent providing a difference of $39,232 dollars. 2008 proved to be a better year for the company then 2009 (Apollo Group, 2013).Statement of Revenue and Expenses The Patton – Fuller Community Hospital ended the year of 2009 with a new income of a negative $373 dollars. This is actually an increase of revenue from the loss of $15,846 dollars they finished with in 2008. The percentage of change between the two years increased to 97. 60 percent. The total expenses between the two years can attribute to the large changes that were made with the net income. In 2009 the company had a total expense of $463,293 dollars, an increase of spending by 59. 20 percent from 2008 when the total expenses were $437,424 (Apollo Group, 2 013).Between 2009 and 2008 there were slight increases of the revenues by the company. Although the company was negative $311 dollars, it was still a better place to be then the $16,110 dollars from 2008. Conclusion When a company is provi ded with a large donation it can do great things for what the facilities are able to provide to their patients. Many factors can contribute to why there are so many fluctuations and changes between 2008 and 2009. This information usually can be found in the organization’s annual report. Upon reviewing the Patton-Fuller Community Hospital’s annual report, I could deduct some possible explanations for the drastic change in numbers from 2008 to 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). One possible explanations is, â€Å"Utilities and other costs – contracted maintenance, some professional fees, and computer and other usage fees – do not fluctuate† (Apollo Group, 2006, p. ). This would be an accurate reason the revenue seems so different. Another factor that made Patton-Fuller C ommunity Hospital’s numbers change so drastically between the two years is the passing of the hospital’s benefactor, Abigail Baderman (Apollo Group, 2006). This occurred in 2008, but in 2009 in accordance to her will, the hospital received a money donation from her estate. This $1,000,000 donation is noted as an unrestricted donation (Apollo Group, 2006). This unrestricted donation is recorded on the Interim Statement of Income in December 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). Declines in the stock market and real estate markets resulted in a sharp drop in the return on investment income. This caused PFCH to reassess the value of its investments and, on their auditors’ advice, to write down those assets (Apollo Group, 2006, p. 3). Another reason the number were so drastically different was because every December Patton-Fuller Community Hospital conducts an annual inventory (Apollo Group, 2006). When the hospital conducted its inventory their expenses for their supplies wer e way underestimated by about a million dollars (Apollo Group, 2006).So this had to be added on as a cost to December’s statement. This underestimate of supply expenses made January to November’s reports not correct, so December had to report the actual figures (Apollo Group, 2006). Therefore, December looked like it was a crazy month for the hospital. â€Å"Following the favorable settlement of some managed care contract disputes, net patient revenue increased by 9% over the previous year, with an average 6% increase in expenses. The Board at Patton-Fuller wanted to take advantage of a heavy discount on new equipment so they moved some money around to purchase the discounted equipment (Apollo Group, 2006). Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage is a travelogue written by a melancholic, passionate and expressive tourist. Byron wrote this poem on his travels trough Spain, Portugal, Albania, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, the Alps and Italy. The hero of the poem, Childe (an ancient term for a young noble awaiting knighthood) Harold is a young extremely emotional man who turns away from the regular society and humanity and wanders through life caring the heavy guilt of mysterious vices of his past. The poem reflects Lord Byron’s views regarding nature and society. In Byron’s Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage we find two opposing forces, one of which is highly idolized by Byron, while the second one is definitely less admired. On one side we are facing the glorious nature, the freedom, the joys of the wilderness and the power of the ocean, while the opposing side is represented by the society, man’s humility, man’s weakness, political and spiritual slavery, illusionary freedom and false love. Byron worships the nature and constantly attempts to escape the madness of the society. Byron was devoted to nature above all, as it is the only thing capable of bringing a man closer to God, eternity and understanding of the unknown. â€Å"To mingle with the Universe, and feel, what I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal†, thus, nature is man’s only way of roughly touching the mystifying beyond, the inexpressible, that colossal feeling of the grandeur of creation, which we can not express, yet the most emotional of us are at least able to feel. Nature is our only link to the glorious power of life and universe. Our only way of understanding our selves, our souls and minds is through facing the nature. Lines like: â€Å"Art, Glory, Freedom fail, but Nature still is fair†, reflect Byron’s belief that nature is above all, and that when everything fails, nature is the only thing capable of helping one overcome his emotional troubles. As if he would say that despite the remarkable glory of all those human virtues, none of them is comparable to the force and magnificence of nature. While one force is our society which has a tendency of producing: â€Å"Wealth, vice, corruption – barbarism at last†, the other force is nature, which is named â€Å"nursing nature† by Byron, as he believed that nature is the only thing capable of healing one’s heart and saving one’s soul. He presents an escapist vision of nature, representing nature as an escape from the â€Å"madding crowd†, introducing what we might call some â€Å"environmentalist† ideas. In Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage the society is characterized by the â€Å"hum of human cities torture†, while nature is the escape, a place to which â€Å"the soul can flee†, breaking unrestricted into â€Å"the sky, the peak, the heaving plain of ocean, or the stars†. Byron sees society as a passing phase. â€Å"From society we learn to live† writes Byron, meaning that our physical fatal existence in this world is united and represented by the society, while: â€Å"‘Tis solitude should teach us how to die†, meaning that the true eternity, spirituality and one’s connection to his soul is achievable only through one’s relationship with nature, thus, through a relationship with â€Å"mountains, leaves, and flowers†. Byron is not rejecting the society, but his real object of worship is definitely nature. He declares that there is no truth beyond nature and wilderness, yet the society is not rejected: â€Å"I love not man the less, but Nature more†, thus, man is beautiful and capable of achieving greatness, yet he is mortal and incomparable to the eternal brilliance of nature. Byron never completely rejected society, but his object of adoration and astonishing love is definitely the Nature: â€Å"Nature† with a capital â€Å"N†, as a religious person would spell â€Å"God† with a capital â€Å"G†. Indeed Byron worships nature as one religious fanatic would worship god. Lord Byron believed in Nature above all, as Nature was the only real truth for him.

It also starts as if everything is happening there and then and doesnt mention anything about a flash back, whereas in the film it starts as a flash back.. In the film George is shown on a train in a fast mid-shot sitting in the corner lonely and isolated in a crouched position, it shows him in thought. It then goes on a CU of George that shows we are going into his thoughts. It cuts to an MS of a woman running in a red dress (representing danger) which is ripped. It zooms in slowly and ends on a CU of woman and shows her emotions and tells the audience she is afraid and terrified. This is not mentioned at all in the beginning of the book. It soon cuts to a LS of two males running. There are rapid changing of shots showing action in the film. MS on males, cuts to a CU of viscous dogs barking and then LS on horses that gives the impression of hunting and also shows time in setting. The audience is involved when the camera is placed in the water that the males (George and Lennie) run through. The music in the film is slow at the start which creates a mood of sadness to the film and relates to the persons emotions, it tells you that George is upset. The music starts slow then gradually gets faster and tells you something is happening (chasing) it is also serious. Not a lot of dialogue is used at the beginning. You hear a woman screaming sounding frightened. You also hear a man shouting Come on! Lennie This tells us that they need to get away from what is happening and also gives one name of a character. There is a lot of SFX are used effectively during the beginning, dogs barking, a train, the music ends abruptly and you can hear the woman out of breath. You can also hear men running and splashes of water. The book lacks action and starts more calmly than the film. The book doesnt tell you why the men are running away and doesnt mention the woman, train or dogs at all during the beginning. The introduction to the two characters (George and Lennie) is very different. In the book it starts with a great deal of description. The film shows you they are in some kind of danger whereas in the book it introduces them calm and with a lot of description about setting and location. The death of Lennie shows alot more emotion in the novel, compared to that of the video. this is because it is slow, and it moves the reader, and makes the reader become emotionally involved. Steinbeck has used some short sentences to create a more dramatic effect of for example: George was silent. This shows Georges emotion. Not long after And he fell silent again. This again shows his emotion and that he just cant cope. Lennie at this point is confused, he has realised that he has done another bad thing but doesnt understands why George isnt angry at him. Lennie tries hard to understand and came to his own conclusion that George would live a better life without him and was willing to leave and let George carry on with his life. George lets him know that he doesnt want him to leave him, even though deep down he agrees that without Lennie he would live an easier life, not having someone to watch all the time. They then start talking about the dream they both had where they would own a place of their own and every thing was perfect. George shakily said Take off your hat Lennie The way he said it shows that he is not showin confidence. George told Lennie to look away, this gave him time to get ready and he used Carlsons Luger too. Which is the same way the dog died, this tells the reader that a death might occur. He looked at the back of Lennies head, at the place where the spine ant the skull were joined. He is thinking very hard here at which would be the least painful for Lennie, who is still no wiser that soon he will die, by his best friend. He is very child like and the book shows this by him giggling while thinking of the dream. He also has an obsession on rabbits (like the way a child would) and shows a lot of excitement towards the dream because he would finally get to tend the rabbits. George wanted Lennie to die happy and finally built up the courage to do it at his happiest. At first his hand shook violently this again shows his emotion. Steinbeck now used another short sentence for effect He pulled the trigger. This is used to shock the reader and also show emotion towards Lennie. The novel ends coldly with a cold-hearted remark from Carlson, Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin them two guys? In the film the death of Lennie is a lot quicker and shocking. When talking about the dream George shoots him first time Lennie says and I get to tend the rabbits Lennies child like features are shown again when he is dead because once he is shot he lies curled up like a baby with George standing over him. It shows Georges emotion towards Lennie and the close bond the had. In the film it doesnt show the audience his struggle to build up the courage to shoot him. It then cuts back to a CU George on the train again, like in the beginning. This time we again go in to his thoughts as he remembers the good times with Lennie. It then shows George and Lennie side by side, Laughing and smiling. Lennie puts his arm around George like a child wanting affection from his mother. This caption is in slow motion to show the audience how close they were and it also gets the audience emotionally involved again and makes them feel sorry. The music used in this part of the film is sad and slow, again for emotion. In my conclusion I have found that there can be a lot of differences between the book and the film. In my opinion I didnt prefer either one because I liked both of them but for different reasons. I liked the book because I liked the idea that Steinbeck emotionally involved the reader with the death of Lennie. It was in my opinion more emotional than the film even though it is upsetting because the music sad and the flash back at the end makes you feel sorry for Lennie and also George.

For the primary data collection process I used the qualitative date collection process which is interview base. For my study I chose structure interview and prepared a list of question. Based on my question I have done my interview through asking question step by step which helped me to get result very clearly. 3.3 Population and Sample Size of this Study Holiday Inn is the UKs largest and fastest-growing hotel brand with over 580 budget hotels and more than 40,000 rooms across the UK and Ireland And from all of them my research area is Holiday Inn Brentwood, UK, were considered as the population for this study. From the management team 8 to 10 were selected as the respondents for collecting the data for my research. The responses of the respondents interviewed were analysed to gain insights into qualitative aspects of the outsourcing activities used by their firms. Qualitative analysis of the collected data from the respondents firms has been made. 3.4 Interview Question The research data were collected using Interview Question. At first a request letter were e-mailed to all the operation management team of the Holiday Inn Hotel , a population of more than 8 team members in total. In all, 3 responses were received, representing a response rate of over 40%. And finally got the appointment for the interview with the Operation Manager of Holiday Inn Hotel and two of the members from their management team. Non-response bias may also possibly have affected the results. Respondents were asked to answer their question step by step .interview question was divided into three sections, each of which is detailed below. A copy of the questionnaire is included as Appendix 2. Interview with Operation Manager It was a face to face interview and the time period was one hour. There was a sample question which contains 3 sections. All regarding outsourcing of Holiday Inn hotel. First section was regarding outsourcing functions and benefits; second section was regarding the suppliers and quality of outsourcing and the third section was the opinion part of the respondent. Interview with the management team members It was also a face to face group interview with two management team members. Hamlet as Victim and Hero      Ã‚   Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, a Shakespearean tragedy, tells the story of Prince Hamlet, who gained the knowledge of a terrible incident that his kingdom had suffered. Claudius, the king of Denmark and Hamlet's uncle, had killed his own brother, the king, who was also the father of Hamlet, and married his brother's widow. Hamlet suffered these traumas to a severe degree, and his only relief was to defeat his human weaknesses and correct the wrongs created by his uncle.    The soliloquy selected to describe the emotions of Hamlet, after discovering the evil doings of his uncle, is found within the lines one hundred twenty-nine to one hundred fifty-nine (Hamlet Prince 71). Hamlet's first reaction was to look for a way out, which would be a common response for several humans if they were placed in that situation. He wished for death and questioned God's decision that suicide be a sin. Most human beings, when placed as leaders in a difficult situation, will look for ways to free themselves of their responsibility. Even Jesus Christ, the greatest being to walk the face of this earth, according to Christianity, searched for a way out as He took upon him the sins of the world in the Garden of Gethsemane. In St. Mathew 26:39 he said, "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou will" (The Holy Bible 1235). Hamlet realized, as Jesus did, that he was in a situation where he was the only man to do the job. Fear in Wordsworth's My heart leaps up when I behold, We Are Seven, Tintern Abbey, and Resolution and Independence Fear in Wordsworth's "My heart leaps up when I behold", "We Are Seven", "Tintern Abbey", and "Resolution and Independence" Romantic poetry conjures in the mind of many people images of sweet, pastoral landscapes populated by picturesque citizens who live in quaint houses in rustic villages, with sheep grazing on green-swathed hills, while a young swain plights his troth to his fair young maiden, who reclines demurely amidst the clover and smiles sunnily. William Wordsworth is perhaps the archetypal Romantic poet; his most famous poem, "I wandered lonely as a cloud", would seem on first reading to support the traditional, one could say stereotypical, image of a Romantic poet. Even his name, Words-worth, reinforces that image. And yet, upon looking more closely and carefully at his works, it becomes clear that the emotions which motivate his creativity are not solely a love of nature and pastorality. Let us consider Wordsworth's "My heart leaps up when I behold". The poem can be interpreted on a very simple level as a typical Romantic poem: there is the glorying in and of nature that most people immediately think of when Romantic poetry is mentioned. The speaker is thrilled when he sees a rainbow, he was thrilled in his youth when he saw a rainbow, and when he is old he will continue to be thrilled by seeing a rainbow; if he cannot be thrilled, he would rather be dead. The speaker's life has a kind of continuity, of stability, through the process of memory. Living in a Dream World: Fantasy and Social Hierarchy in Cheever’s “The Swimmer”

John Cheever’s short story, â€Å"The Swimmer,† describes the epic journey of Neddy Merrill as he attempts to swim his way back home. Throughout the story, readers continually question reality and fantasy while wondering whether Merrill is really experiencing what Cheever portrays or if he is simply stuck in the past. Merrill goes from house to house as he freestyles across each swimming pool along the way. As the story draws to the end, Cheever points out that Merrill’s world is not what it seems and he has really lost everything he loved. An analysis of â€Å"The Swimmer† by John Cheever through the liberal humanist and Marxist lenses suggests that the story is really about how our human desire to relive pass successes and the pursuit of materialism will eventually lead to downfall. Looking at â€Å"The Swimmer† through the liberal humanist lens suggests that the story is really about how living in a fantasy world and believing in a false youth will cause ignorance of reality and the loss identity. In the story, Neddy Merrill seems to be living in a fantasy world as he heavily drinks alcohol, socializes at parties, and attempts to swim through the neighborhood. Now Merrill is starting to have thoughts about reality and questions what is happening to him. He began his journey youthful and enthusiastic, but now he feels weak and worried. He is unsure of himself and is beginning to lose himself a bit. In a critical essay regarding Cheever’s use of Merrill’s transition, Hal Blythe and Charlie Sweet say: â€Å"Perhaps the second half of the story, in which Ned is an older man, is the reality, and the midsummer beginning of his water odyssey is just a happy reverie of better times. † Merrill has been ignoring reality and he has lied to himself, thinking back to his youth where his live was probably much better. He has denied himself the truth and now he does not know who he truly is. Merrill’s confusion builds up as he spirals down. Throughout the story, Neddy Merrill is living life as he dreams, but it is not the real world. He is an old, lonely man who has severely lost his way. All his life, Neddy Merrill has been constantly going through the same routine. Merrill has had to attend neighbor’s parties, drink himself into inebriation, and show off his status around town. His life has been a cycle that he himself has tried to shape. He believes he can continue this pattern forever, but he can’t. Everything eventually changes, yet Neddy Merrill denies himself this fact. During his water journey, however, Merrill begins to see how futile his efforts really were, â€Å"The force of the wind had stripped a maple of its red and yellow leaves and scattered them over the grass and water† (Cheever 2046). Merrill, who began his journey on a beautiful summer day, is now faced with the fall season and begins to see time in full force. For Neddy, time represents an enemy, something that he wishes to control. Time, despite Neddy’s attempts through repetition to stop it, has not been standing still. Nature is in constant motion† (Blythe). Merrill’s journey has led him to realize how useless his repetitious lifestyle has been. He now questions his worth and wonders where his life is taking him. Merrill is a broken man and has fallen to his lowest point. Looking at â€Å"The Swimmer† thr ough the Marxist lens suggests that the story is really about how easily social statuses can change under different circumstances and how blinding hubris can be. Neddy Merrill is clearly a man of means in the story. For one thing, it is clear he can afford to spend time during midday to enjoy the afternoon by the poolside. Living in an upper-middle class suburban neighborhood has given Neddy many benefits. But his extravagant lifestyle takes a turn for the worse once he starts his journey home. As Neddy swims home, cold and half-naked, he begins to â€Å"crash† neighbors’ parties as he attempts to swim through everyone’s pool and is not very welcome. â€Å"The bartender served him but he served him rudely. His was a world in which the caterer’s men kept the social score, and to be rebuffed by a part-time barkeep meant that he had suffered some loss of social esteem† (Cheever 2049). Neddy is obviously offended by being rebuffed by some lowly barkeep. He considers himself of a higher status and power, yet by undertaking such a journey, Neddy has left himself susceptible to the very discrimination he gives to others. By dropping by without invitation, Merrill is now seen by his peers as somewhat of a scavenger, like the unwanted guest at dinner parties. In a critical essay describing ethnic origins in the story, Michael D. Byrne says: â€Å"Of the English or German neighbors in this part of the story, two have no pools and two rebuff Neddy for his casual arrogance in dropping by. † Because his actions, Neddy has turned himself into a â€Å"Wandering Jew† of sorts and his attempts to get free drinks at a party is looked down upon by his English and German neighbors. Neddy has always tried to live life to the fullest but his attempt at something unique has failed and Neddy is cast aside by society. Looking at â€Å"The Swimmer† through the Marxist lens also suggests that the story is about how high social status and wealth will cause relationships to be ruined and, eventually, lead to isolation. Neddy Merrill enjoys his cocktails and fancy dinners and thinks his life is all good. He chooses which parties he wants to go to and which to avoid. He thinks he has it all made. But all that materialism doesn’t end well for him. He ignores those he believes are beneath him, ruining social bonds. When Neddy arrives at a neighbor’s party, he reminds himself of what he thinks of them. They did not belong to Neddy’s set – they were not even on Lucinda’s Christmas card list† (Cheever 2049). Cheever is trying to show how Merrill believes his is so high up the social ladder that he is embarrassed to be at such lower person’s house. Merrill thinks of life as black and white, rich and poor, and him and everyone else, â€Å"Neddy, living in the suburban world of the American Dream, dwells upon social position and materialism† (Blythe). All Neddy has focused and lived his life by was what he had in his wallet. For him, his large houses and luxurious lifestyle placed him above his peers. His attitude has given him many enemies and Merrill is now all alone. In a critical essay, Neddy’s attitude towards his neighbors is analyzed further, â€Å"Merrill’s withdrawal into a private vision, therefore, should not be interpreted as a noble ambition; rather, it reflects his refusal to acknowledge some more essential, important connections with others† (Riley). He has thrived on his social status and material wealth, but in the end, that was all he had. Merrill is now left alone with no friends to help him. Looking at â€Å"The Swimmer†, however, through my personal reader-response lens, I see a man who is simply trying to find purpose in his life. Neddy seems to have it all, a nice suburban house, a great neighborhood, and all the pool parties he can attend, yet I feel there is something missing in his life and he feels that void in his life too. In a way, we are all like Neddy Merrill. We all want to answers to our questions, especially â€Å"what’s the meaning of life? † The idea of that question is too big to grasp or understand. I think that is the biggest reason why Neddy lives the way he does. He tries to avoid thinking about his purpose by filling his life with all these insignificant things that he really does not need or care about. Like many others, I am also trying to find my way through the world and discover what exactly my purpose in life is. I know it will not be something crazy like saving the world from aliens, but a sense of direction is always welcome. I think everybody can relate to Neddy in more ways than we realize. Our biggest gift is our life and I think we have to find some meaning in it, or we will all end up like poor Neddy with no hope for his future.

A day in the life of a homeless person Essay

It’s very scary around here with all the drug addicts and bullies who live around here. It’s horrible I live in eternal fear of being attacked and you are never safe with all the desperate homeless people around who would kill for a sleeping bag and some small change. The smell of rubbish and stale odours of last week’s rubbish is unbearable, the only water is stale, even then that is never enough to stop the burning in your throat. Every day it’s the same thing, people walking past scowling at me, the day old food I am forced to live off, never anything good to eat always stale and insufficient. I wonder what it’s like to be able to cool your throat with an ice cold lemonade and suppress the hunger with a good meal of course it would take a good days begging to get something like that, and I’m lucky if I make a pound a day as most people just walk by and ignore me, like yesterday I saw a bunch of school children go past they didn’t even give me a look, they don’t know how lucky they are they have everything they need. I spend my days walking through the streets trying to scavenge what I can. Walking through the city I see the most amazing sights such as the large houses with their exquisitely designed architecture and big lace curtains draped across the windows, my eyes are fixed on this I dream of a place like this but I know it will never happen.

Talent Search Rutgers Essay Visiting Rutgers university on November 5th, 2013 was definitely a great experience as well as an eye opener for me. From touring the dfferent campus, getting an inside look in one of the Residence Halls and actually sitting and eating lunch In a setting filled with actual college students, the experience was surreal. Vlsltlng Rutgers motivated me to seek better for myself so that hopefully I can attend there or somewhere like it. With that said, there are many factors that come In to play hen considering me being able to go to Rutgers University.What can I study? One of the best things about Rutgers Is that It offers over a hundred different majors, and holds thousands of courses. When I get Into college I would Ilke to study Sports Management with a minor In Marketing. Luckily, Rutgers does offer a Bachelors degree In sports Management and Instead of minoring In Marketing: I could make it a major as well and be a â€Å"double major†. An opportunit y like that is breath taking and definitely caught my attention.Although Rutgers doesnt ffer my major beyond a bachelor's degree, like masters or doctorates, Rutgers is an accredited university so another college with a Sports Management master's program would greatly accept my bachelor's degree from Rutgers. Is Rutgers worth the cost? With such large and diverse campuses, Rutgers is a bit pricey. Although paying to attend may be very expensive, to me it's a risk worth taking. Rutgers diversity along with its academic profile suggests that it is one of the top tier colleges across the nation.Also, Rutgers has so much more to offer than just cademics. With 400 student groups, Division 1 athletic programs, and the state's most extensive network of research labs, RIJ definitely sets the bar very high. Hopefully with a helping hand from Financial Aid, Rutgers cost will be a little less expensive so that I can cover all costs. Can I get in? That's the million dollar question. Based on th e different requirements and things that come in to play when the office of admissions chose who they would like to see at their school, I think I have a fair shot.With my SAT cores and my personal statement, hopefully I stand out in a way that would help me get accepted. Rutgers university is definitely a great choice for me personally. Although It has been on my college list, the tour definitely assured Its position. The Most Effective President

Who is the most effective president since 1950?   An effective president has good foreign relations and helps the country through aid, social programs, and more. An effective president also cares for his people.   Lyndon B. Johnson fits these criteria.   He is the most effective president of the last 50 years or so. Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908 in Texas.   He experienced some poverty, as he lived in a rural area, and he had to fight to pay his way through college.   However, he managed to get a degree from the Southwest Texas State Teachers’ College.   In 1934, he married Claudia â€Å"Lady Bird† Taylor. The first office Johnson held was as a Representative in the House, where he was for Roosevelt’s New Deal.   He spent a total of six terms as a Representative, and during this time also served in the military during World War II, winning a silver star for his services as a lieutenant.   After this, Johnson was elected to the Senate in 1948.   In 1953, he began the Senate minority leader, the youngest man to ever hold the position.   In this position, he supported and passed many Eisenhower initiatives, which was unusual since they were not the major party at the time. Johnson’s presidential campaign began when he was Kennedy’s running mate and then vice president from 1960 – 1963.   After Kennedy’s assassination, he was sworn in as the president.   His first moves were to pass a civil rights bill and a tax cut, which had been a part of Kennedy’s plans prior to his death.   Johnson was sensitive to civil rights because he had worked with Mexican children during his adolescence in Texas. Johnson was also a great speaker, and he urged the nation to ‘build a great society.’   He won the election of 1964 with the highest margin ever, over 15 million votes.   In his first full term as president, Johnson began to do many public works. These are the works that made him a truly great president, and they include â€Å"aid to education, attack on disease, Medicare, urban renewal, beautification, conservation, development of depressed regions, a wide-scale fight against poverty, control and prevention of crime and delinquency, [and] removal of obstacles to the right to vote.†Ã‚   These were important steps in fighting the problems of the country, including racism, poverty, and more.   Johnson also helped the elderly through the 1965 Medicare amendment to the Social Security Act. Besides working to help those in the country who could not help themselves, Johnson also aided the space program, which successfully put men into space, men who orbited the moon, in 1968.   Besides just going to space, the space program also came up with many useful inventions that are now common in the homes of all Americans; Johnson funded this research. There were only two bad things that happened during Johnson’s presidency: blacks rioting in the ghettos over discrimination, and the increasing threats from Communists in Vietnam and elsewhere.   Johnson did his best to try to put down the riots and have peace talks with the Communists.  Ã‚   In fact, peace talks were still happening when Johnson left the White House and died shortly after. Johnson was president until 1968, and afterwards he returned to his home in Johnson, Texas.   He died there in 1973 of a sudden heart attack. The least effective president of the last 50 years, in contrast to Johnson, was Carter.   His efforts to create jobs and reduce inflation were met with some failure, as the economy took a downturn and interest rates and inflation remained extremely high.   Carter also spent a lot of time worrying about the environment and foreign affairs, and not a lot of time working to reduce poverty or racial discrimination. Johnson was a great man.   He worked to fix all of the problems in the country, including racial issues, which were huge at that time.   Desegregation had been ordered but was not being carried out; Johnson sought to fix that.   He also made available help to those who were impoverished, giving them a new chance to succeed in life, and improving the health of the country in general.   Johnson was the most effective president of the last 50 years.
